Doc Martin country

Today we trekked across Cornwall to Tintagel and then on to Port Isaac where Doc Martin was filmed. Unfortunately Tintagel was full of tourists and we are trying to avoid the crowds and the huge expense that is connected with tourist attractions.  We saw the castle and looked down at Merlin's cave but really didn't want to be amongst all the crowds! Once again it was absolutely stunning in terms of views, and Cathie, as I've been looking at cliffs and caves,  I have been remembering all of the stories about smugglers in Cornwall that we used to read.  After Tintagel, we drove down to Port Isaac, stopping for a little picnic on the way.  Mum and dad would have been proud of us as we bought a little esky and thermos so that we could stop spending money in cafes.  The only thing missing was the fruit cake! We have noticed though that there aren't many little parks on the side of the road like there are in Australia.  We ended up stopping and eating on the side of a football field under a tree!
You'll see from the photos that the weather has been absolutely perfect, if not a little too hot at times.
Port Isaac was a lovely little place.  Jen was joking on the way in that she'd like to see the big guy who plays the restaurant owner in Doc Martin and I wanted to see the lady with the neck brace!  Well, Jennie won - we just missed out on seeing a part of the show being filmed, but we did see the big guy (can't remember his name!) driving right past us - we could have touched him! He was driving a little mini coupe with the roof down and he looked as if he'd had rather a bad day!! He certainly wasn't the happy looking chap he is in the show! So, now we are famous!
