North Wales - Conwy Castle and an explore of Chester

Today we drove across to North Wales to check out Conwy Castle which had been recommended to us by a friend of mine who was born in Chester.  We were not disappointed.  What an amazing castle to have withstood the test of time so well. From the little bit of Wales that we saw, it seems beautiful.  Unfortunately time didn't allow us to spend more time in Wales, but we certainly got a taste of its history by spending so much time exploring the castle.  King Edward I sounds like a savoury character!
When we got back to Chester we decided to do the walk around the Chester walls.  It took us some time to work out how to find the actual wall and then to find a park, but we were most impressed that this is the first thing we've done which hasn't cost us any money and it was a really impressive history lesson as well as stunning to look at.  We were treated to such a variety of architectural feats and such a broad range of time.  We loved the Roman gardens where they have excavated the remains of Roman baths and the view of the city from the walls was spectacular.
The start of our walk in Chester. People are soaking up the sun. What's that expression? Mad dogs and Englishmen....
The river Dee
Love the outhouses in this photo
Remains of Roman bath house
Roman gardens
Roman amphitheatre
And finally, a little Scotty dog outside the pub where we had dinner!
